Default Raid Content?

I realise that much of the post ascension content is was held back for release, but I haven't seen anything about raid content. Are there any "Raid Zones" planned for the end game, where objectives require huge numbers of players to complete, or is 8 going to be pretty much the most you will ever fight PvE with?

I've seen nothing like this in the betas, and I've never heard any comment from the devs about this either. Currently how is PvE is being done, I'd say no.

I believe the Devs have mentioned in one of the Fansite Friday's that GW will not have any WoW-style Raid content anytime soon. GW is a game based on skill of the player, and when you have swarms of players fighting....skills get tossed out the window. That's probably the primary reason why we are limited to 8 persons teams in GvG/PvP.

I strongly disagree. Most raid content I have experienced in other MMO -- Everquest, City of Heroes -- require considerable planning, tactics, and coordination among groups not to mention dedicated raid leaders who will do that.

according to Gaile there are no plans for the mass mess of mob raids

i think it will not be an issue in the near future if at all

Hello

Reading the fansite fridays would be a good idea. FF #40 especially has the answer to your question. Here is a copy-pasted section:

We don???t support 50- or 100-member warring parties, because for the most part, a whole lot of strategy and skill flies out the window at high numbers. The loss of those key game elements would be one reason why we might hesitate to support allied team play that involves a large number of players.

I???ve taken part in large-scale combat, and I have to say it was so un-fun that I left before the battle was finished. Now I???ll be the first to admit that this is just one player???s opinion, and that I didn???t care for it because the sort of hectic, disorganized onslaught combat I experienced just wasn???t my cup of tea. It might appeal to any number of other players, though.

I guess what I want to say is that as a player, I believe that large-group combat can surely be better conceptualized than what I???ve experienced. If the Guild Wars design team takes on the challenge of allowing wide-scale team alliances, I feel sure that the outcome and the experience will be altogether superior to the large-scale battles players have been offered in other games. After all, Guild Wars is and will remain a game that is centered on player skill. So in designing for this type of large-scale combat and for team alliances, the Guild Wars team will be careful to assure that the promise of rewarding players for their skill is upheld, even when there are a large number of players involved.

I am currently in DAOC, where its gotten to the point that if you know what you are doing and know the raid well, then most of the TOA raids can be done with a small group and some solo.

That would be rather fun, just an ongoing war you can randomly join into, where at anyone time its 100's of players fighting oncoming armies of Charr.

I'm kind of tossed on this issue. While it's all fine and dandy on paper. I would really like to see some massive battles. Like entire guilds fighting eachother, an actual "Guild War". I don't know how it will turn out though. First off, there would probably be a whole lot of lag on peoples computers who aren't up to spec.
Next, It kind of seems that all the strategy would go out the window. As stated earlier, the mass combat would be a bit disorganized and hectic.

Anyway, I would like to say it could be pretty fun. It just depends on how it is made.

Raids = Skill = Lies. Look at those WoW videos. They can't even run in formation, let alone have real tactics. The only mass team vs mass team that works is shooter types mostly, like BF or something like that, since skill is so dominant of a factor, it balances the zerging. In an RPG like Guild Wars, there isn't anything a small group can do to counter a large group by using ambushes and such, and therefore absolutely takes away any real skill from the competition. It does require skill essentially, in that is is just a sized up version of PVP currently. RPGs for the time being have no comparison of twitch or strategic skill in universal game terms compared to shooters, so beefing the size of the match is only going to produce zerging. It's real fun when your a warrior, and you die in the first 2 seconds because 10 guys just obsidian flamed you, not even divine intervention can save you then.
